 PAKISTAN RAILWAY POLICE

Pakistan Railways Police is a federal law enforcement agency, which was constituted in 1977. The Pakistan Railways police executing its duties throughout the Pakistan in its defined jurisdiction. It is an attached department of Ministry of Railways with prime responsibility to enforce railway laws, protection of railway assets, prevention of crimes in the vicinity of railways, and to provide secure journey to the passengers. PRP comprise of 8 divisions under the superintendence of SP Railways. These divisions are further regulated by high command at Central Police Office Railways, Lahore through DI'sG and AIG Administration.

Besides its constitutional responsibilities in taking cognizance of offences within the jurisdiction, Pakistan Railways Police are providing immense assistance to the railways for the retrieval of its precious land. It is playing vital role in tracing out/reuniting the legal heirs of lost/runaway children. Furthermore, they also take custody of lost luggage of passengers in order to hand over to them.












RESPONSIBILITIES


Railways Police perform following functions under section 3 of Pakistan Railways Police act:-

(a)     Preventing loss to Railways property and property consigned to the Railways and prevention of offences in respect thereof;

(b)     Ensuring proper conduct of persons on the Railways;

(c)     General maintenance of law and order on the Railways and taking cognizance of offences committed on them;

(d)     To render all possible assistance to passengers and railways servants;

(e)     To protect travelers from injury to person or property; (f) to keep railway platforms and others railway premises clear of idlers and beggars and to keep a look out for suspicious persons, smugglers and persons travelling with arms without a license or in contravention of rules, regulations or orders for the time being in force;

(g)     To search empty carriages for property left behind by passengers and to take possession of such

          Property for due disposal under the law;

(h)     To control and regulate movement and parking of hackney carriages and mechanically propelled vehicles at Railway stations and enforce the regulation of the Railway authorities with regard to them;

(1)     To bring to the notice of the appropriate Railway authorities any contravention, breach or violation of any law of which the Pakistan Railways police cannot itself take cognizance; and (i) such other function connected with the purposes of this Act as the federal government may by notification in the official gazette, require the Pakistan Railways Police to perform.







HELP DESK


In order to facilitate and assist the passengers, one-window help desks are operational at all major railway stations of Pakistan. These help desks are working 24/7 and taking all possible measures to provide relief to the passengers in the form of first-aid and other multiple forms of assistance.



These desks are helpful in tracing out the heirs of lost children, finding out the abandoned children from platforms and trains, and returning them to their parents. The desks are playing vital role in reuniting the lost and runaway children/youths back to their legal heirs. They also provide the wheelchairs to the disable, old and handicapped persons. Furthermore, the lost luggage of worth billions of rupees have been returned to the passengers until now.

















PAKISTAN CITIZEN PORTAL


Prime Minister Delivery Unit & Implementation of “Pakistan Citizen Portal”

The Prime Minister’s office is revamping its Delivery Unit so as to make it more efficient and improve its effectiveness. The purpose of this reorganization is to facilitate the general public, Overseas Pakistanis and the Foreigners to ensure prompt redressal of grievances. Additionally, Pakistan Citizen Portal is an (online) Integrated Citizen Grievances Redressal System connecting all government organizations both at Federal and Provincial levels. The system will serve as carrier of complaints to their respective offices across Pakistan. Three colour coded scheme has been introduced in this system, to ensure efficiency in disposal of matter pertaining to public service delivery. 

The IG/PRP office has started processing the complaints received through this portal. After receiving such complaints against any PRP official or of any other nature, a senior officer is appointed for enquiry. The complaint is not disposed of until it’s either redressed or has proved to be false after verification by an enquiry officer.
